What is a zine?
A fanzine is an independently published magazine centered around a single theme, created in collaboration with fanfiction writers and artists.
Do you need to have read the books to participate in the zine?
No, it’s not required, but it’s encouraged if you want the full Hollanov experience. We purposely chose the time period between Heated Rivalry and The Long Game for the content of our zine, so that show-only fans don’t feel left out.
How old do you have to be to participate in the zine?
We require that you are 18+ since the source material deals with explicit content.
What are the zine specs?
The zine will be a physical A5, full color zine.
How many artists will you be accepting?
TBA (based on IC results)
How many writers will you be accepting?
TBA (based on IC results)
Will there be any guest artists?
We plan to invite several guest artists for this project.
Will NSFW be allowed?
Since the source material contains a lot of NSFW content, some of it is unavoidable. However, we ask that all art and fics remain at a mature rating rather than being outright explicit.
Is this a for-profit or charity zine?
This is a charity zine. All profits will be donated to organizations that support LGBTQ+ advocacy in sports. Our primary charity partner is You Can Play, and we will also be selecting a second organization to support at a later date.
What is You Can Play?
You Can Play is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion and belonging in sport. Through education, partnerships, and advocacy, You Can Play works with leagues, teams, and sport organizations to ensure all athletes and participants are respected and judged solely on their performance and character. Founded in 2012, You Can Play is a trusted partner across professional, amateur, and community sport, helping build safer, more inclusive environments at every level of play.
Is this a Hollanov exclusive zine? Can we include any other Game Changers characters?
The main focus will be Hollanov, but you’re more than welcome to include other characters from the series in your art or fics, as long as Hollanov remains the primary focus (ex: outsider POVs on the Hollanov relationship).
What is the theme of the zine?
The theme of the zine is to create works for the 3 years between Heated Rivalry and the Long Game. During this time, Shane and Ilya are in a relationship, but Ilya is still playing for Boston or transitioning to Ottawa. We chose this specific period to ensure that both book readers and show-only fans can enjoy the zine.
Are Alternate Universes allowed?
We ask that all works generally stay within canon. Since the year before Ilya officially moves to Ottawa isn’t explored extensively in the books, we chose this time period because it gives contributors the most room to play and interpret.
How will contributors be compensated?
All contributors are guaranteed a free digital copy of the zine. If funds permit, they will also be compensated with a free physical bundle. The remaining profit will be donated.
Do I need any zine experiences to apply?
Not at all! We welcome applicants of all experience levels!
Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes, you may apply for multiple roles. However, you will only be accepted for one role.
Is traditional art allowed?
Yes! Please make sure provide a clean and high-quality scan of your work, scanning in 600dpi or more are highly advised.
